Microsoft has comes with a new, luxurious keyboard accessory. The company calls it the Signature Type Cover, and it’s made a from a high-end fabric called Alcantara, that feels a little like suede and matches the color of the Surface Pro 4. You’ll have to pay a little extra for those premium looks, however, as it runs $159.99 in the Microsoft Store — 30 bucks more than the regular Type Cover. But is still $10 cheaper than Apple’s own “smart” iPad Pro keyboard.
This latest signature edition includes a big glass trackpad and better spacing between the keys, but its selling point is the Alcantara material Microsoft is using. Alcantara fabric is often used by headphones manufacturers for a soft and comfortable fit, but Microsoft using it to cover its latest Surface keyboard.
‘Sourced in Nera Montoro, outside of Milan in Italy, Alcantara is a innovative and unique material used in high-end luxury products like fashion, interiors, and automotive—it brings an unparalleled level of design and sophistication to everything,’ the page explains. ‘The Signature Type Cover features a gorgeous two-tone gray mélange that pairs perfectly with your Surface.’
The $159.99 cover features a QWERTY keyboard along with spaced keys for comfortable typing, as well as a dedicated buttons for Windows shortcuts and full row of function keys (F1 through F12), media controls, screen brightness, and a right-click button.
Microsoft has opted for a two-tone gray style that should grow darker over time, to compliment the color of the Surface Pro 4.
